AERONAUTICS, SAFETY, SYSTEM INTEGRATION, CRISIS MANAGEMENT

Sqn Ldr James Giles RAF (Retd) is a former RAF Officer who spent the first 16 years of his career as an operational pilot, test pilot and flight test instructor. After joining the RAF he trained for a year as a pilot at RAF Cranwell. Training was followed by three operational tours on the Hunter and Jaguar. He was trained as a test pilot at the US Navy Test Pilots School where he came top of the course and then worked at the RAF flight test-centre as a Harrier and Sea Harrier Test Pilot. He concluded his RAF service with a tour as the Principal Tutor of the Empire Test Pilots School.

After leaving the RAF he established the International Test Pilots School at Cranfield, UK, the first commercial school outside the US. ITPS trained pilots from every continent in the world and was the first test pilots school to award MSc degrees to Flight Test Engineers, in partnership with the Cranfield School of Aeronautics. The school is currently flourishing in Canada. James was awarded a Queens Award for export achievements in 1992.

After a period as a contract test pilot in Singapore, James was contracted, through his company, to support the international development of a US company, Analytical Graphics, marketing their range of Satellite Tool Kit software products. This involved setting up companies in Singapore, Japan and Malaysia and growing international business by over tenfold. He moved to Malaysia in 2002 and focused on developing command and control software and enabling the integration of military systems.

Over the past few years he has adapted the military command and control systems to an integrated solution for improving the management and safety of disaster relief personnel, particularly those fighting forest fires. James currently lives in Thailand where he is working through his companies; Intori Co Ltd in Thailand and Intaero Ltd in the UK. He continues to work internationally throughout Asia and Europe
